This is the blog of Taras Young. I’ve been researching Cold War documents for more than a decade, and wrote Nuclear War in the UK (Four Corners Books, 2019), the first comprehensive survey of public information about nuclear attack, pulling together decades of brochures, booklets, posters and restricted files from Cold War Britain.
This blog loosely focuses on British civil defence and ‘domestic propaganda’ from the period 1947~1991. Since 2020, it has served as an extension to the materials available in my book.
If you want to find out a bit more about the reasons for its existence, please go back and read the first blog post. I try to post as often as I can, although you will find more bits and pieces over on Twitter.
Otherwise, please use the menus at the top of each page to browse the content that’s available here on the site.
If you’d like to get in touch by email rather than Twitter, please use firstname.lastname@example.org.
